The Tea Room QVB - Sydney - Sydney, Australia

The Tea Room QVB

Another birthday celebration calls for another eating out occasion. Yay!

This time we're having high tea. Oh how I love sipping on hot tea and eating fresh scones and petite little desserts. Feel so lady like.My first time coming to a proper high tea place with tiered stands and not the buffet style that I went to last time.

The Tea Room is located within the Queen Victoria Building, Sydney. We take the ancient looking lift up to level 3 and amazingly 6 people actually fit within the small enclosed space.

Upon walking in, the interior feels like I'm in a old English movie. High tea is held in what use to be the original Grand Ballroom.  It is nicely decorated with rustic furniture,  beautiful chandeliers hang on the high ceilings and the white, pastel walls makes it feel so relaxing.

The 'Traditional Afternoon Tea ($43.00 plus $2.00 for tea for connoisseurs)' is our option even though we're here at 11am which is classified as still the morning.  The menu  says it consists of a set selection of finger sandwiches, petit fours, sweet and savoury pastries, scones with preserved and clotted cream with tea or coffee.

My cousin J and I opt for the  connoisseurs team 'Jasmine Pearls' for the extra 2 dollars. It's very fresh and not too strong, just like how we like it. This is refilled many, many, many times. We just love our tea. Cousin W has the 'Cappuccino' which there isn't much to say about it.

I'll let the pictures do the talking as I can't remember much about the names of what I ate. But my favourite was. None of us liked the lavender macaron as it just tasted soapy and unpleasant.

We spent a good few hours there sipping, eating and talking away like how it should be. If only more lunches were like this free from unnecessary gossip and not a care of thought in this world at that point in time.

Then it was time to go as the waiter brought the bill out even without us asking for it as I think we went overtime?

Great Century Restaurant - Bankstown - Sydney, Australia

Great Century Restaurant

Firstly, before I get into any detail about my experience, I DO NOT RECOMMEND this place for yum cha.

Service was pretty bad. We asked for extra chilli sauce three times before the waiter actually remembered. But then again service at yum cha is rarely good.

The food was alright tasting and steaming hot which is a tick from me until.............

It came to ordering the spring rolls. I rarely order spring rolls and on that certain day I had the sudden urge to eat spring rolls. It just look so crunchy and tasty from the outside.

Then as I took my first bite, the SHOCKING thing happened. At first I thought it was a bamboo shoot but then it was too hard to be that.

It was a TOOTHPICK! How did a toothpick get into the spring roll stuffing is what bothers me. Was someone picking at their teeth whilst mixing the ingredients. Quite disturbing in fact. DISGUSTING! I'm quite turned off spring rolls for now.

I was so disgusted that I didn't even had the chance to take a picture and called over the waiter immediately. He apologised and the item wasn't charged on the bill. He immediately took it to the kitchen in fear of it being seen.

In total we had 4 dishes excluding the spring roll and it amounted to $29.00. I expected it to be free after what happened.

Didn't not order anything else after that and left quite hungry.

So yes that was my very unpleasant experience and I won't ever be returning again.
