Dong Son - Cabramattta - Sydney, Australia (Post 2)

Dong Son

As mentioned in my previous post about Dong Son, I promised to post about their char kway teow and revisited today to give it another try. It's been so long since I've tried their char kway teow as I probably didn't feel like eating it on the day and when I did feel like eating it, the restaurant wasn't open (Closed Wednesday).

Their quality of food and taste standards are pretty consistent and doesn't vary much at all which is probably what has maintained their loyal customer base for many, many years including me. However, portion size of dishes can vary between visits.

The 'Beef Char Kway Teow ($10.00)' is a very decent and huge serving today. The gravy is overfilling to the corner of the plate and the abundance of rice noodles hides beneath. It's the not the typical Malaysian/Singaporean char kway teow but more of a Chinese/Cambodian style take on the dish.

It has the 'wok hei' flavour to it which is also translated as the breath of a wok which does make it a special dish. It consists of thick rice flour noodles, egg, gai lan(Chinese broccoli) and beef. You can also get it stir-fried with seafood, combination or pork. It must be dipped with their house made satay sauce which is delectable.

Do give it a try and see what you think.

Dong Son - Cabramatta - Sydney, Australia

Dong Son

A Chinese-Cambodian restaurant that I have been frequenting since I was very young and still continue to go but not as much as I use to given the distance from the Shire.

The authentic, humble, no frills and packed with locals kind of place where you know you will get the 'real' stuff.

My favourite place for the 'Combination Egg Noodle Soup ($8.00)' is definitely here. Best had for brekkie / brunch.

If you're in the area, you've got to try it out as this isn't the usual Canto style noodle soup you get at those typical Chinese restaurants.

The soup is packed full of flavour and topped with a piece of chicken, a prawn, livers, mince pork, fish ball, blood jelly, pork patty and some shallots and chives on top. Add the bean sprouts on the side and dip the meat in their special satay sauce and this is just the perfect combination. Yummy! Plus side is the noodles are cooked al dente and doesn't go soggy quickly like what you usually get.

You can have it dry or with soup. Both are equally as good.

They also make a mean 'Char Kway Teo' which I will blog about next time.
